Discover the rich flavors of classic masala chai with this authentic recipe. A perfect blend of black tea, aromatic spices, milk, and sweetener, this traditional Indian chai is warming, comforting, and easy to make at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup milk (traditional whole milk, soy milk, almond milk, or oat milk per your taste)
  • 2 teaspoons black tea leaves (preferably Assam or Darjeeling)
  • 1-2 teaspoons jaggery or sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4-5 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 1-2 slices of fresh ginger
  • A pinch of black pepper (optional)
  • 1 star anise (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Boil Water and Spices: In a saucepan, add the water, crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger slices, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow the spices to release their flavors.
  2. Add Tea Leaves: Add the tea leaves to the boiling water and continue to simmer for another 2-3 minutes. The longer you let it simmer, the stronger the tea will be.
  3. Add Milk and Jaggery: Pour in the milk and add the jaggery or sugar. Stir well to dissolve the jaggery, and bring the mixture back to a gentle boil.
  4. Simmer: Reduce the heat and let the chai simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the flavors are well combined, and the chai has reached your desired strength.
  5. Strain and Serve: Once ready, strain the chai into cups to remove the spices and tea leaves. Serve hot and enjoy the bold and aromatic flavors of traditional masala chai.

Pour your freshly brewed masala chai into a cup, inhale the warm, spiced aroma, and savor each sip. Whether enjoyed alone or shared with loved ones, this comforting drink is a true celebration of tradition and taste.

This recipe of classic masala chai provides a blend of traditional spices. Enjoy!
